Role and Responsibilities:
As a Waste Management Diesel Mechanic, you will support heavy fleet reliability by performing preventive maintenance, mechanical troubleshooting, and complex repairs on commercial waste collection trucks and equipment.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and bumper-to-bumper repairs on diesel tractor-trailers and heavy utility fleets
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic system faults using advanced computer diagnostic tools
• Repair and overhaul brake systems, suspension, steering linkages, diesel engines, and automated transmission units
• Conduct mandatory safety inspections to ensure complete fleet compliance with DOT and company standards
• Maintain accurate digital records of repair orders, parts inventory, and scheduled maintenance logs
• Keep shop work bays clean, organized, and compliant with environmental health and safety rules
Required Skills and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• 2+ years of experience in heavy-duty diesel mechanic or commercial fleet repair work
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using electronic diagnostic equipment
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (CDL Class A or B preferred)
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and bending
Preferred Qualifications:
• Formal vocational certification or Associate degree in Diesel Technology
• ASE certification in Medium/Heavy Truck inspection and brake systems
• Prior experience working on hydraulics or refuse collection vehicle equipment
